When Dollywood announced that they were adding
a new Roller Coaster to their theme park for the
opening year of 1999,
I was overwhelmed with excitement,
for this was one ride I could not wait to review.
Then the day before they open the Tennessee Tornado to
the
paying public,
I was one of the lucky one's
to get to ride it first.
The walk up to the coaster is
quite a hike,
it's at the very end of Craftsman Valley & in my
opinion,
one of the best locations for it.
Because the excitement builds up inside of you
before you even reach the entrance to the ride.
Just hearing the roar of the coaster before you can see
it,
makes the experience much more exciting.
As I reach the end of craftsman valley,
I got my first glimpse of the Tennessee Tornado,
and I was not disappointed.
I took a good look at how the ride was built & then
climbed on.
The first & only incline to
the highest point of the coaster,
is your only chance to take
a good look
at what your about to experience.
The first plunge takes you around a sharp curve
and then entering a 150 ft plunge through the
midnight pass tunnel.
Then the 110 ft spiro loop hits you with surprise,
with a maximum speed of 63 mph,
and a G force of 3.7 g's
The coaster then travel's
through a few
twist & turns, then enters Dolly's,
double iron butterfly loop
with a force that's unbelievable
and then whips through
more twist & turns,
then travels back to the main loading dock.
Wiping the tears from my eyes" i'm thinking to myself,
"wow what a great ride",
you roller coaster fans are going to love it...
This is the world first "spiro - loop roller coaster"
and I do recommend the Tennessee Tornado
to anyone who's looking for an exciting
experience in the Smokies...
Young children "must" be measured for height
before entering the coasters dock,
I do not recommend
the Tennessee Tornado to anyone with
heart or medical problems...
