This page is dedicated to an
Amusement Park that's no longer there.
And why? " you ask"'
Because Frontier Land
{ That open up in 1962 }
was located in Cherokee North Carolina,
and was once an outstanding
Theme Park before closing it's doors
in 1982, and replacing its name to
Cascade Waters ( a water park,)
which soon went bankrupt.
But before money & water
became an issue.
Frontier Land
was themed after the
old Mountain Towns of the Smokies,
and the Adventures of the old west
that no young person in this
day & time could ever imagine.
Me my self", I was a very young lad when
I took my first trip to
Frontier Land.
It was to me,
like Dollywood is to a child today.
Your adventure began by either
riding an old wood burner train,
or a more modern conveyance,
the Gondola, in which you ride high
in the sky and have a picture you would never forget.
We almost always took the train,
and it would tread its way around
the hills and past the old Fort Cherokee,
and then stopping at Pioneer Junction.
You then was in an old Mountain Town
which was named Deadwood Gulch.
Gun fights in the streets
was an everyday event.
Digger the undertaker
would run around to
each dead outlaw, to see who had
the best boots on.
The Town was full of life,
you could take in a Saloon Show at the
Last Chance Saloon or get a hamburger
at the Fried Bear Cafe.
After you wear full,
Walk on over to Fort Cherokee
to see the Indians attack the Fort as history
would unfold right in front of your eyes.
After that,
you could leave the old behind
and enter the new.
There were Rides galore.
From the
Ferris Wheel, to the Tilt - a - Whirl,
it was all there filled with fun...
Now all that stands is maybe an old building or
two.
And on the main grounds of Frontier Land stands the new
Harrah's Casino,
I've been to the Casino, and although its fun,
It's no Frontier Land and
unless
your as rich as Dolly and would like
to rebuild the old theme park back, "or let us build
it back to it's original design".
Frontier Land will just be a grand old memory
to the
good folks that got to visit the wonder of this park...
I do hope who ever reads this
in some point in time,
Understands that this park meant a lot to us,
and to a lot of other folks.
If you remember going to
Frontier Land and you have some
old photos of the park,
Please e-mail
Smoky
Mountain Today.com

And so if you think you may have more photos, let us
know,
we will post them in this page for everyone to enjoy...
yours truly, R.A.R - Smoky Mountain
